Supreme Court told Gina Rinehart knew Hope Downs iron ore mines were a partnership deal in dispute over unpaid royalties

A Supreme Court trial has been told there is "significant evidence" mining magnate Gina Rinehart has known since at least 1986 that the iron ore mines that earned her billions of dollars were part of a partnership between her late father and his business partner. The development goes to the heart of claims by late businessman Peter Wright's family that Hancock Prospecting, owned by Ms Rinehart, has improperly denied them royalties and equity in the highly lucrative Hope Downs tenements in the remote Hamersley Ranges in WA's Pilbara region. The claim is part of a high-profile dispute between the two families over billions of dollars of iron ore deposits which began in court this week.Lawyers for Wright Prospecting produced a letter in court on Tuesday between Ms Rinehart and her father dated February 20, 1986 where they said Mr Hancock refers to the Hope Downs tenements, including some formerly known as East Angelas, as jointly held for the Wright Prospecting and Hancock Prospecting partnership.
